If you’ve considered bringing a group of friends, family, colleagues, or community members to see A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical, here are some tips from someone who has organized several group trips to Broadway shows.

For years, Dean has brought groups to various Broadway shows. To date, he’s organized 33 group outings with a total of 1495 tickets purchased. And recently, Dean brought a group of 50 to see A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical earlier this year.

Who makes up your group?

Dean: “Originally, anybody I know.  Now, anybody I know plus anybody THEY know. I have a list of 204 people who have gone to events in the past that I send an email invite to, and I create a Facebook event (that is made public) and send invites out to that – as well as enable anybody to invite anybody. So, my group is neighbors, coworkers, family, folks I know from high school, college, curling, scouting, traveling – and folks they know. No common denominator other than they like theater.”

How do you travel to the city?

Dean: “People came in from NY, NJ, CT, and PA – some by car, some by train, some by bus.”

What tips do you have on booking tickets?

Dean: “I try to offer a range of ticket prices so that folks can select what suits them. Some folks want premium tickets, others want the cheapest in the building. I personally like front mezzanine for large shows/musicals, front center orchestra for more intimate shows/plays. For this one, I offered pretty much anywhere and the breakdown was 2 Orchestra Premium, 10 Mezz A-C Center, 23 Mezz F-J, 10 Mezz K-L for 51 total.”

Do you organize extra activities with the group pre/post-show?

Dean: “I typically plan to gather the group post-show. For A Beautiful Noise, we did Peachy Keen for this one for their 60’s/70’s vibe. We got a good portion of the cast to swing by – well over a dozen of them – and my ask is that to earn their meal, they take a bit of time to work the room, introduce themselves, pose for selfies and have a conversation or two. Sometimes, I have to remind them that they need to put a food order in!”
